Gyoza

Jiǎozi is a Chinese dough dish known as Gyōza in Japan and Mandu in Korea. There are similarities to Swabian Maultaschen, Polish Piroggen, Ukrainian Wareniki and Turkish Mantı. The filling usually consists of vegetables, meat or seafood, such as prawns or shrimps. Chinese restaurants often offer a wide range of fillings. There is a vegetarian version with regional vegetables such as jiucai, pickled suancaio, bamboo shoots or Chinese cabbage and mushrooms such as shiitake (Chinese dōnggū) or similar. The meat filling is usually pork, although shrimp or lamb is also common in some regions. The filling can be seasoned with salt, soy sauce or finely chopped ginger.
